Helping One Meal At A Time

Monday, February 3, 2025

WPBF Channel 25’s Covering your Community highlighted the urgent need for donated meals at the Lewis Center, a homeless shelter in West Palm Beach.

On the live ABC interview to spearhead this call to action to help the homeless was Gulfstream Goodwill Industries and GL Homes.

Goodwill operates the four Palm Beach County homeless shelters including the Phillip D. Lewis Center. Funds are tight to provide dinner seven days a week to hundreds of people residing at these temporary shelters. The other shelter locations are located in Palm Springs, Pahokee and Belle Glade.

To help alleviate the need for meals and bring this issue to the forefront, GL Homes stepped in to provide a $10,000 donation to cover the cost of meals at two of the shelters that Goodwill operates: West Palm Beach and Palm Springs. That $10,000 will cover one month of dinners at both locations.

Through Goodwill’s Breaking Bread program, individuals, companies, civic and religious organizations can donate commercially prepared meals at any of the four homeless shelters 365 days a year. Community volunteers are welcome to serve those meals to those residing at the shelters.

Gulfstream Goodwill Industries changes lives and transforms our community by building pathways to independence for persons with barriers through housing, education, training and employment.
